Former CASUALTY actor Clive Mantle has been injured following an unprovoked attack in Newcastle.
Clive had part of his ear bitten off in the alleged attack which happened in a Travelodge in Newcastle last Sunday, in the early hours after he had asked his neighbouring guests to keep the noise down.
He was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where he underwent surgery to reattach his ear. He is now recovering at home and will see a specialist in Oxford to determine whether the operation has been a success.
A spokesman for his agent, London-based Saraband Associates, said: ‘He is very shaken and shocked by what has happened. You don’t expect this kind of thing to happen in a hotel. He said the police, ambulance and hospital staff were amazing.’
Clive, who played doctor Mike Barratt in both CASUALTY and sister show HOLBY CITY, was in Newcastle touring in the theatre production of ‘Lady Killers’. An understudy will now take over his role for the final three weeks.
