Part 1: It started out with a kiss...
It started out with a kiss. That kiss that they shared in the staff room. That kiss they shared just after she slapped him across the face. That kiss they shared that led to him being where he was now. He was stood at the nurse’s station with some patient notes in front of him. But he wasn’t looking at them; he was looking in the direction of the door that was shutting him out from her, hoping that she would emerge from it any time soon.
She, like him, had patient notes in front of her but wasn’t looking at them. Instead, all her thoughts were on him as she was staring at the same door as he was and hoping he would come in, even though she tried to tell herself that she didn’t need him.
At much as they wanted to see each other there was one thing that was putting them at each other’s throats… their baby. Their baby that was a result of that kiss. She wanted him to have nothing to do with their baby. And that is what hurt him inside because he wanted to be there, wanted the chance to be a good father, wanted to help. However it was her. She was stopping all that from happening. And one thing she didn’t know was how much pain she was causing him.
It was when he had gone to see a patient that she surfaced. She had to perform an important operation, with him, in five minutes. When in there they didn’t make a conversation, he didn’t want to provoke her and she just didn’t want to talk to him. The only time she spoke was when she was asking for equipment.
After they had finished the operation they both went back to the separate things they did, she went back to her office and he went back to the nurses station. But this time there was something different. It was a certain matron. A certain matron that she hated. A certain matron he found really annoying. This matron knew about their baby but still she had the nerve to chat him up and ask him out for a drink. What annoyed him was that she just couldn’t get the message, he just wasn’t interested.
It was 10:30 and their shifts had just ended and again she emerged from her office only to find this matron flirting with him and even though she wouldn’t admit it, it broke her heart. He noticed her and their eyes met. He couldn’t help but think how amazing she looked. She walked headed towards the lift and he knew that this was his chance. His chance to talk to her. His chance to have his say. His chance to try and get through to her.
He watched the doors of the lift draw together. He knew that if he were to catch her before she reached the car park, he would have to take the stairs. So that’s what he did, he sprinted down the stairs and he was lucky enough to reach the ground floor before she did. This was it, now or never. She walked out of the lift and outside, unaware that he was right behind her. He called her name and she turned around. This was it, his time to talk to her. The only problem facing him know was… would she want to know?
