I'm not such an outgoing person myself, so I don't see the lack of outgoingness a flaw or weakness or a bad trait in a person. Holly was a strong character as herself. She most certainly wasn't afraid to show her vulnerability, except when it came to Patrick and her feelings towards him. What Holly and Patrick had was magic. It wasn't the typical soap opera romance where the characters feel instant physical attraction towards each other and are quite ready to jump into bed with each other, even if they might first seem to resent the thought and wonder their feelings. Holly and Patrick were not like that. It was deeper than that. It was realistic, and refreshing to see at the same time. Realistic in the sense that for once people were forced to deal with feelings which made them feel genuinely confused. Patrick and Holly's fear of rejection was obvious, and trust me, many people in real life have the same fear, the same fear which may prevent them from even trying to hint to someone that they care. For once, on the tv screen we saw people with reservations and insecurities, people with things in their personality which many times in the media nowadays are considered a "bad thing" in a person. Even though in the end most people have some kind of reservations, they are certain types of self-protection. For once we saw on tv people not having enough courage to go where their heart tells them to go and do. Something many other people feel and go through as well. I didn't see much spark and magic between Lara and Patrick. What I saw was physical lust. I suppose they cared for each other in a way. They liked and cared for each other enough not to want hurt each other. I still believe that Lara never saw "the real Patrick". The real Patrick was hidden behind those tears caused by Rachel's death. He was shocked. Any one of us would've been.

I'm a Hollyite because I believe in true love which was what Holly and Patrick had and because I found Holly to be more likeable, believable and easier to like. Holly/Sandra Huggett and Patrick/Ian Kelsey also helped to make series 14 and 15 the two best series Casualty will ever see.

I don't mind Lara but I find her quite difficult to get into a lot of the time and I think her relationship with Patrick was more lustful than true love. I feel shes flung at the viewer unlike Holly who was given a chance to work her way in.

Exactly. I loved the true love between H&P and when Lara arrived, it wasn't a case of "hmmm... Could this be true love?" It was a case of "She shouldn't be with Patrick. Holly should."

Like the good old Laura rants, wonderful! And I can't do anything but agree with you. Indeed, the characters seem much more realistic before and if we take a closer look at it, at least in my opinion doctors are people who have studied a lot to get to the point where they are and they have had to skip a lot of things for their cause. On top of that most of them are not that very outgoing persons, to get to the point of being able to actually get into med school you have to study a lot (or at least learn a lot) during your school years and people who think partying is more important usually don't get that far. I'm not saying that doctors wouldn't be crazy about partying, as they seem to be and I don't know if anyone understands what I'm trying to say?

Doctors usually tend to be quite normal people (with an interesting sense of humour though, lol!) and Holly seemed like a normal, genuine and kind person. Lara on the other hand seems to have been given the part of a super-woman; one of the first things we got to know about her was that she had worked in a war zone and so on. She was given the role of someone who always had to have some action around her and I somehow cannot see her sitting year in and year out with a text book under her nose, trying to study Maths and Physics and later on the Latin names of every single part of the human body. You need to be very good at concentrating and be able to sit down and do something most people find quite boring for hours, without having any action whatsoever around you. To turn into a doctor Lara would have had to do this. Somehow it doesn't seem quite as realistic to me as I feel it should, seeing as one of the most important parts of chosing characters for a tv series should be that they actually fit into the series and into the environment.

About Holly and Patrick, for me it was something with their eternal 'will they, won't they' and the fact they went on like that for ages, instead of rushing into a relationship. Moreover, there was something magical in the way they talked to each other that always made me giggle. I could happily live the rest of my life merely listening to wonderful conversations between the two of them and trust me, that life of mine would be very long as I would get to laugh so much! And those time I wouldn't laugh, my face would be one huge smile, because Holly and Patrick always manage to make me smile. No other couple I have ever seen on tv has managed to do that in the same extent.

OK, rant time, please read as it took some effort

I'm a hollyite - fair play I did used to be a laraite but in series 15 I think you'll agree that before the arrival of Lara everyone was a Hollyite at some stage - where not everyone was a laraite.

The whole 'will they, won't they' and the history that Holly and Patrick had was what made their relationship so special. They agued. threw sly comments and Patrick's arrogance was just as there as it ever was but deep down they cared about eachother.
- "And it was because of you... Holly, do you not understand what I'm trying to tell you?"
Those lines after the first Tom incident meant so much and their disappointed glances when the other walked away, both looking back at different times.

In BTS part one they both agreed to go out for a drink after work after she told him 'You're wrong, you are good enough for me, you know" Oh the anticipation!! And then Merv went and did his usual trick and didn't give her an exit story line.

Fair enough if you hadn't seen holly and patrick on cas like Emz, but those who have, surely you can see the chemistry? I can see why I was a laraite, playing with fire was a sweet episode and acceptance is really funny but, when it comes down to it, I think that what Holly and Patrick might have had would have been more special.

Anyone who saw that advert for casualty once has to agree that Patrick loved Holly more than anything in the world.

- He was staring at an x-ray seemingly contemplating the diagnosis when he made a sarcastic remark about a couple that had just come in, to Holly.
"What is it with you Patrick?" she scorned. "Don't you have a heart?"
Then there was a flash back to where they were in medical school, the two of them kissing on new years eve, him wishing her a happy new year and then (back in real time) Patrick looks forelornly at Holly's disappearing figure muttering. "No, not anymore."

I mean, come on!! Can you not feel the love?!
