Baz finds it very hard going back to work after a holiday. She treats a woman prisoner in her thirties who slashed her arm after her fourteen year old lover finished their relationship. Baz discovers that she is heavily pregnant. The young lover turns up atthe hospital after all, but the woman’s condition worsens and she dies after Baz has performed an emergency caesarean. The terrified new father runs off.
Sam discovers that a patient’s broken toe was caused when he kicked a wall in anger, having found out his brother is gay. When the man realises that Sam too is gay he demands to be treated by another nurse. The two are reconciled when Sam discovers that it is a fear of abandonment that drives the man’s prejudice.
