Actor Steven Miller joined CASUALTY at the beginning of this series as one of the F2’s – Lenny Lyons. He talks to holby.tv about his role…

Are you enjoying your role as Lenny in CASUALTY so far?

Yeah, loving it so far, it’s a lot of fun! They’re all a great bunch to be working with too, everyone is game for a laugh but professional in the appropriate amounts.

Have you had much feedback from viewers/ fans regarding your character?

He seems to be going down well enough, the most frequent feedback I get comes via my Mum from people that live near us in Scotland, and usually involves any combination of the words “cheeky, git, want, strangle”!

Lenny is not immediately likeable due to his over-confident approach however he does have moments where he shows a softer side. Do you think over time, he will be able to curb his weaknesses as a doctor?

His mouth has certainly got him into trouble already, but parts of what you would call his “weaknesses as a doctor” I think also add up to be what makes him better than some of the others (when he does get it right of course!).

How are you similar/ different to Lenny personality wise?

Cheeky humour, although I have to admit mine would often go further than Lenny is allowed.

What have been your most memorable scenes to film so far?

Rocking around Lenny’s bedroom in ridiculous underpants to the tune of Guns’n’Roses whilst the pet rat looked on with curiosity has to be one of the top 3, but there have definitely been a few!

If Lenny was to get a love interest in the show, who would you like to see him paired with?

I think it’d have to be a new girl, someone with a good sense of humour that can stand being around a social idiot!

Do you mind the ‘blood and guts’ side to the show or are you squeamish?

Nah, not a problem so far anyway!

Who are your closest friends on Set? Do you socialise much with cast outside of work hours?

We all seem to get along pretty well, Will Sharpe (Yuki) and I share a dressing room so I’d say he’d be a close candidate. To be honest though I’m usually prepping work for the next day then off home to London come the weekend!

Have you ever had any real-life accidents?

Only minor breaks, toes etc. Nothing too serious thankfully!

Lenny is a big rock music fan, what are your own tastes in music?

We share the same taste in music to a degree, although I’m a bit more eclectic. My favourite band has to be Sigur Ros, but I’m more about music to fit the mood.

What was the last CD you bought?

The last CD I bought was AC/DC The Best Of.

How did you get into acting? Which actors/ actresses do you admire?

I was in a childrens’ theatre group called Forefront from the age of about 13, and when school leaving age approached acting somehow fell into place as something I’d like to do. Weirdly enough I saw actors on TV and for a long time never really thought of them as people making a living, just got on with enjoying what I was doing.

As far as Actors go I have many many favourites, one of which is Paul Giamatti.

You’ve also had a guest appearance in sister show HOLBY CITY, what memories do you have from this? Did you enjoy it?

I did enjoy it… most of the time – it gave me a great deal of respect for our guest artists that end up in a resus bed for days on end, trying to keep awake under all those lights when in the back of a shot after lunch. Impossible…

Away from the hectic filming schedules, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I enjoy badminton a lot but don’t always get the time, so have to settle for the gym. I like going to the theatre and watching films, and playing xbox.
