As well as a number of famous guest stars gracing the wards of CASUALTY. The medical drama also spawned stars of it’s own.
We take a look at some of the most successful CASUALTY exports…
Brenda Fricker
Brenda Fricker is undoubtedly one of the most successful stars to have started life on CASUALTY. Original cast member Brenda Fricker played SEN Megan Roach in the first five series of the show. In her last year on the show, Brenda filmed ‘My Left Foot’, which won her an Oscar. She has since worked steadily in TV and films but still made time to make a guest return to the show for Baz and Charlie’s wedding in Series 12.
Robson Green
Robson Green’s first big break came playing cheeky porter Jimmy Powell from Series 4 to 6. After leaving the show, his popularity increased due to his role in Soldier Soldier. A brief musical career with Jerome Flynn ensued and he then returned to acting where he lead a number of shows including Wire in the Blood, Touching Evil, Reckless, Rocket Man and Northern Lights. He also has his own production company Coastal Productions.
Julie Graham
Julie Graham may be a familiar face due to her roles in At Home with the Braithwaites and William & Mary, but few remember one of her first TV appearances as a regular on CASUALTY. Back in Series 3, Julie played Student Nurse Allison McGrellis.
Claire Goose
Popular Claire Goose’s first major TV role was as nurse Tina Seabrook. She drew an army of fans following a storyline which saw her character raped and her later romance with Sean Maddox. Since leaving the show she also featured in another BBC drama Waking the Dead. She also filmed Secret Smile and is currently filming Perfect Day, which will begin a series following a successful pilot.
Christine Stephen-Daly
Although already famous in her homeland of Australia, when she first hit British screens as SHO Lara Stone in Series 16, she was to become one of the show’s all-time favourite characters. Involved in many fantastic storylines which included her relationship with Patrick, a spell in prison and a dramatic hostage. It was not long after her departure that she joined the cast of BBC drama Cutting It and is currently enjoying a major guest role in The Bill.
Jonathan Kerrigan
Jonathan immediately hit heart-throb status when he played nurse Sam Colloby for three years from Series 11. After quitting the show, he appeared in a number of dramas including Reach for the Moon, A Dinner of Herbs, MerseyBeat and is currently a main cast member of Heartbeat.
Maria Friedman
Although becoming a household name playing Social Worker and Charlie’s love interest Trish Baynes in Series 6, Maria is more famed for her vocal ability and stage roles. She has appeared in critically acclaimed shows such as The Woman in White, Witches of Eastwick and Chicago to name a few.
Jason Merrells
Jason’s first TV break came playing receptionist Matt Hawley between Series 9 and 11. However this was just the start of a number of TV appearances and he is now more famed for his key roles in dramas Cutting It and Waterloo Road.
Steven Brand
Steven Brand appeared in Series 8 of CASUALTY as nurse Adam Cooke. He has since gone on to appear in a number of films, most notably The Scorpion King. He now resides in LA where he continues to work in TV and film.
Craig Kelly
One of Craig’s first television roles was as nervous SHO Daniel Perryman in Series 10. Since leaving the show he appeared in a number of television programmes including cult hit Queer as Folk, The Grimleys and Hotel Babylon. He has also appeared in a number of films including Titanic and Wing Commander.
