Episode Summary

Jacob and Teddy respond to reports of an overturned car in woodland. At the scene they find a young man, Ryan, with a piece of metal impaled through his neck. While assessing the vehicle, they discover a teenage girl, Harriet, trapped in the boot. The team initially suspect Ryan may have abducted her. However, before he is taken to resus, Harriet explains that Ryan is her brother and that she hid in the boot because she wanted to go with him to a festival. Despite efforts in the ED, Ryan later dies from his injuries.

Siobhan is informed by police that the DNA swabs taken following her recent assault were insufficient for testing, leaving her feeling deflated.

With a CQC inspection looming, Flynn reminds the team they must raise their standards and remain focused.

Matty senses Dylan has been distant and confronts him. Dylan finally admits that he is Matty’s biological father. Matty is stunned and challenges how he can be certain, insisting he already has a dad. The revelation leaves both of them unsettled.

Keith, a man with Down’s syndrome, arrives with a facial laceration, claiming he was mugged and attacked with a knuckleduster. Matty treats him while his girlfriend, Jenny, visits. When Keith is discharged, Matty tells him the attacker has been arrested and that his wife, Mary, is outside ready to take him home.

Faith approaches Iain about trying again in their relationship. Iain admits he slept with someone else, describing it as a mistake. Faith is visibly hurt and unsure how they can move forward.

During the shift, Kim feels lightheaded. Matty offers her food, which she readily accepts. Later, when she cannot get to the toilets, she is seen repeatedly running up and down the stairs, suggesting she is trying to counteract eating.

Police officer Ashley stops Jacob’s son, Blake, while pursuing a robbery suspect, claiming he matches the description. Blake insists he and Jacob were simply out running, but tensions escalate and Ashley arrests him. Jacob is furious at what he views as unjust treatment and later confronts Teddy about Ashley’s actions.

Siobhan treats a young boy, Harvey, brought in by his mother, Tanya, who claims he has been experiencing blackouts. Siobhan discovers they have already attended another hospital where no issues were found. Tanya eventually admits they were evicted and hoped admission would provide shelter for the night. Siobhan sympathises and involves social services to secure emergency accommodation.

Later, in the staff room, she speaks openly with Jodie, Rida and Cam about staying safe. She reveals she was raped walking home, making it clear she refuses to carry the shame but urges them to look out for each other.

Stevie tells Kim she needs to develop a thicker skin, but we also catch Stevie herself wincing in pain.

At the end of the shift, Dylan catches Matty before he leaves and admits he took the DNA swab because he needed to know the truth. Matty tells him they should carry on as they were before, leaving their future relationship unresolved.
