
Holby.tv are sad to report that former CASUALTY actor Ben Keaton has sadly died, aged 69.
Ben played porter Spencer between 1999 – 2002. His character, a former alcoholic, had a number of storylines including a frosty relationship with colleague nurse Barney that ended up in him saving his life from drowning, being held a gunpoint with Patrick and his wayward daughter Gilly joining as a receptionist before being arrested for dealing drugs.
Besides his CASUALTY role, Ben was also famed for his roles in Father Ted and Emmerdale. He appeared in a number of stage roles including Animal Crackers, Hay Fever, American Buffallo and Cyrano de Bergerac. He wrote five series of Hubbub and his own series, Gumtree.
He also co-established the improv group South of the River and also had a senior role at the Creative Academy.
Ben was a comedian too and won the Perrier Comedy Award in 1986 and a nomination at the Laurence Olivier Awards.
His death notice read, ‘Ben will be forever greatly missed, loved and fondly remembered by his ex-wife Polly, son Waldo and daughter Daisy, brothers Des and Thom, sister Jeanette.’
