Episode Summary

A woman, Betty Jones, who gives herself a fake name ‘Faye Dunaway’, is brought in with self inflicted cigarette burns, she discharges herself and steals a bottle if ipecac on her way out. Later, Josh and Jane are called out to her flat, she has stomach pains. Beth is sure her husband has beaten her, enraged she slaps him round the face, as he doesn’t seem to care that she has suffered an ectopic pregnancy.

A mad man ‘Leathers’ is waiting around reception for a sick note and makes a nuisance of himself, he scares another patient, Mrs Cox, who has her arm in a sling. The staff gather round to calm him down and he bites Charlie on the knee. The police are called and Charlie has to have it photographed for evidence.

An old lady, Mary, is brought in after being pushed against a rail at a supermarket, while stealing a tin of corned beef.

An obese man, Terry, falls down some steps after being taunted by youths. He has a sprained ankle, but pleads with Beth to have his jaw wired to stop his over eating. Beth tires to persuade him it wouldn’t be the best option.

Two young men, Tommy and Alfie, are glue sniffing in a speeding car, when Alfie collapses. Tommy drives him to A&E and dumps him outside on Jimmy. He is taken to CRASH where he dies. Unknown, Beth asks about the possibility of organ donation – Julian and Charlie clash over ethics. Later a guilty Tommy returns to Holby and sees him dead in CRASH.

Jimmy gets friendly with a Geordie tramp, Bob, who’s depressed about his dog dying, he says he came to A&E to see people worse off than him. Jimmy lets him sit in reception.

Cleaner, Doreen, tells Charlie off after finding injection needles in the bins. Trish is upset at Charlie, as she never gets to see him and suggests a transfer. Julian finds out Beth has applied for a GP post.

Patients

* Betty Jones ‘Faye Dunaway’ – self inflicted cigarette burns, comes in later with stomach pains caused by an ectopic pregnancy.* Terry Telford – obese man with sprained ankle, wants jaw wired.

* Mary – an old lady shoplifter, pushed into rail at a supermarket.

Husband Sam chases after Betty, she locks herself in room.

Sam : Slaaa-aaag!

Betty : Yeah, well who turned me into one, eh?

Sam : You can’t hide in there forever, you dirty stinking cow!

Last Scene/words

Charlie : We’ll talk about it later.

Trish : We’ll talk about it now-

(Jimmy enters and hands him a megaphone for alarm test)

Jimmy : 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. (alarm goes off, Charlie goes out and Trish looks upset)

S7 E18 (16 Jan 93) : Everybody Needs Somebody by Arthur McKenzie

Episode Summary

Charlie persuades Ash to go for promotion. News is going round of the new Consultant Mike Barratt – Andrew thanks the team for their support as his time as Locum. Nikki phones Ash at work to tell him she’s had an abortion, shocked he leaves work early and they discuss the situation.

A mentally ill man, Kevin, takes pills, cuts his wrists and tries to gas himself to the horror of his barrister sister, Sonia. When paramedics Josh and Jane arrive, Kevin tries to strangle Josh. Josh is also treated in casualty, where his wife, Helen, visits him and treats Jane jealously. Sonia is persuaded to let Kevin get professional help.

An old farmer, Harry, taunts his nephew over land, before getting his leg trapped under a tractor. Paramedic Union Rep, Rimmer, freezes at the sight of his legs, and later tries to persuade Jane not to tell anyone. Rob and Sandra are also called out to tend to his injuries, but he dies in CRASH.

Patients

* Kevin – mentally ill man who tries to kill himself.

* Harry – farmer traps his legs under a tractor and dies from his injuries.
