When Maureen, a lonely, old lady, comes in to the station claiming she can hear voices telling her of forthcoming crimes, Custody Sergeant Christian Young finds himself defending her to the station’s Inspector, Jenny Black.Despite one of Maureen’s prophecies coming true, Jenny is deeply sceptical and Christian has little choice but to send her home. Still keen to understand Maureen’s so-called predictions, Christian soon discovers her “gift” hasn’t been issued from the Gods.
Having found out that DCI Harry Hutchinson has been feeding inside information to local drugs baron Stenga, DI John Keenan confronts his boss. Nearing retirement and eager to save his own skin, Harry proposes giving John and DS Luke French watertight evidence on Stenga in return for his own freedom. Desperate to give Harry the benefit of the doubt, John agrees to the deal, battling both his own instincts and Luke’s attempts to dissuade him.
Smelling a rat, Stenga soon realises that Harry has double-crossed him. Knowing that Harry is useless to him now, Stenga aims to hit John in the one place he knows will hurt him the most. Raiding John’s former home, Stenga takes his estranged wife, Kate, and their children hostage.
Desperate to save the woman he still loves, and their children, John rushes to their aid with partner Luke as back up. When they find Stenga fully armed and determined to escape, a violent confrontation ensues.
